Reason #16 to Vote Out Hare

Reason #16: Phil Hare lied about the
ICGA endorsement.

The Bobby Schilling for Congress campaign unveiled the 16th reason in their “20 Reasons to Vote Out Phil Hare” series. The series focuses on Phil Hare’s record and explains why he does not deserve re-election. The campaign will release one reason per day up until the election.

Reason #16 to Vote Phil Hare Out of Office: Phil Hare lied about the Illinois Corn Growers Association endorsement.

Last night in the WQPT debate, Hare claimed that he had the endorsement of the “corn growers.” Hare was clearly referring to the Illinois Corn Growers Association, a group he had a press conference with yesterday morning discussing river infrastructure.

However, we checked with the ICGA. They do not endorse political candidates.

Bobby Frederick, communications director for the Bobby Schilling campaign, said this type of dishonesty is why Americans are turned off by politics and career politicians.

“It’s one thing to hide from a failed record, but it’s another to outright fabricate an endorsement,” Frederick said. “The Illinois Corn Growers Association does not endorse political candidates, and Phil Hare knows this. Hare is desperate to save his job — he should’ve worried about saving our jobs the last four years. If we can’t trust Phil Hare to be truthful about something as simple as a political endorsement, how can we trust him at all?”

Rep. Phil Hare continues to duck the issues and refuses to participate in a real debate with Bobby Schilling in a public, fair, unscripted setting. Apparently, it’s never too early for Hare to panic. However, the quote of the night (that raised eyebrows) goes to the Green Party candidate who said of Hare’s reluctance to participate that:

“I’d like to get people out there so they understand where I am coming from, where Mr. Schilling is coming from and let the people decide in November… I’d like for Mr. Hare to be there, but if he is afraid to tell people where he stands, let him keep hiding.”

Is Hare afraid to tell the voters that he voted for the failed stimulus, the government health care take-over, and the job-killing National Energy Tax? Is Hare unable to defend the liberal Pelosi agenda which he so proudly voted for 98.8% of the time? It was reported that an empty podium will remain at each of the three debate sites in the event that Hare decides to physically show his face to the voters to discuss the issues that matter to them.

Please tell Phil Hare he doesn’t own the 17th district congressional seat. Debates are like job interviews — you can’t simply skip the interview with the employer (the voters) and expect to get the job just because you happen to be a Washington insider who took over $600,000 in special interest contributions.

Why Is Phil Hare Ducking Debates?

On August 26, 2010, in General, by edwardpan

“You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today.”  –  Abraham Lincoln

Phil Hare’s decision to duck debates is a stunning admission that the public doesn’t have a right to ask questions and that incumbent politicans don’t have to answer to their constituents.

With all of the important issues facing our country, Bobby Schilling called on Hare to commit to four debates across the district last week. The Hare campaign claims they haven’t seen the debate requests. However, this request letter has been sent directly to the Hare campaign and the media over a week ago.

Hare refuses to answer to his constituents even though just last week the US Bureau of Labor Statistics showed Illinois losing 20,020 jobs from June to July, making the state one of the biggest job losers in the entire country.

These debates would give Hare a chance to defend his votes for out-of-control spending, crushing deficits, government-run healthcare, and his 98.8% support of Speaker Pelosi’s liberal agenda.

Maybe the reason Hare is ducking debates is the same reason he refuses to release his poll numbers.  Hare knows that the voters are tired of politics as usual, his avid support for the Obama-Pelosi liberal agenda, and they want someone new who will focus on improving the economy and restoring the public trust.

Yesterday the Watermark Women agreed to host a political debate on September 2nd and Bobby has already agreed to participate. However, the Quad Cities Online is reporting that Phil Hare is missing in action, again. They wrote:

“The following candidates have not indicated yet whether or not they plan to attend the event: Larry Weber, Democratic candidate for Mercer County treasurer; Phil Hare, Democratic candidate for 17th District Congressional seat; and Pat Verschoore, Democratic candidate for 72nd District state representative. In addition, none of the candidates for Mercer County Board have indicated yet whether they plan to attend.”

Public political debates have always been an important element of American democracy during election season. Voters deserve to have a representative that is honest, forthright, and transparent in their dealings. You have to ask  yourself, “why is Phil Hare ducking the debates?”
